“Looking back, it’s hilarious — now I can actually laugh and think, ‘Wow, that’s incredible,’” she said about the scene from Unidentified with Demi Lovato.

Remember when Demi Lovato sang to a ghost?
During her guest spot on the Just Trish Podcast on Thursday, Sept. 11, the topic of Unidentified with Demi Lovato came up — the Peacock series where she explored the mysteries of UFOs and the paranormal.
Laughing, the 33-year-old admitted, “I was really high,” when host Trisha Paytas asked if the viral “ghost serenade” clip was authentic.
Lovato explained, “I’m a spiritual person and I definitely believe in the paranormal. I won’t deny that at all. The whole premise of the show was me investigating aliens and spirits and having fun with that,” to which Paytas, 37, responded that Lovato’s singing still sounded incredible.
The singer went on to clarify that the moment happened “during a period in my life when I was smoking a lot of weed.”
“I honestly haven’t rewatched it because it makes me cringe,” Lovato admitted, “but at the same time, it’s so funny now that I can laugh and think, ‘Wow, that’s amazing.’”
She added, “Why not embrace it? I’ve said and done some silly things, but if you can laugh at yourself, you take away the power from others. I love being able to laugh at myself.”
Unidentified with Demi Lovato debuted in September 2021. In one memorable scene, Lovato explored an abandoned house with her best friend Mathew Scott Montgomery and paranormal expert Chris Smith from The Wraith Chasers.
During the investigation, an entity identifying itself as “Carmen” appeared and expressed discomfort around men, prompting Montgomery and Smith to step out of the room. To ease the situation and allow her friends back in, Lovato performed part of her hit song “Skyscraper.”
The trailer for the four-episode series teased the unusual encounters ahead. “I’m Demi Lovato — singer, activist, and UFO experiencer,” she said. “I’m traveling with my best friend Matthew and my sister Dallas to uncover the unknown and unexplained.”
Lovato’s conversation with Paytas came just before the release of her latest single “Here All Night” on Sept. 12. The track dropped alongside a choreography-driven music video, celebrated with a launch party in Los Angeles where Paytas hosted the event.
