Lil Nas X is attempting to enter a diversion program related to a felony battery case involving police officers, stemming from his arrest in August.

The artist behind the hit song Old Town Road appeared in court in Van Nuys, California on Thursday, March 12. During the hearing, his attorney, Christy O’Connor, reportedly asked the judge to grant a brief postponement so she could submit a motion requesting that the case be moved into an unspecified diversion program, according to Rolling Stone.

The judge scheduled the matter to return to court on April 6, the publication reported.

After the hearing, the rapper — whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill — spoke briefly to reporters gathered outside the courthouse. He expressed gratitude toward his supporters and said he looks forward to reconnecting with them.

“I just want my fans to know that I love and miss them,” the 26-year-old told reporters, adding that he deeply appreciates their support and hopes to see them again soon. He ended the short message by wishing everyone a good day.

A representative for Lil Nas X did not immediately respond to a request for comment from People Magazine.

The performer was arrested on Aug. 21 after officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports that he was allegedly walking naked along Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by People, authorities claim that when officers arrived, the star used force that allegedly caused injuries to three police officers.

A few days later, the singer-songwriter appeared before a judge and waived his formal arraignment. He pleaded not guilty to three felony counts of battery causing injury to a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer.

The musician — also known for the hit Industry Baby — had bail set at $75,000. As part of the conditions, he was required to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings each week. He was released from custody later that same day.

Shortly afterward, he addressed the situation publicly through a video shared on his Instagram Stories, reassuring fans that he would recover from the experience.

In the video, he told supporters that he would be okay despite the frightening events of the previous several days.

At the time, attorney O’Connor rejected suggestions that drugs were involved in the incident.

“Even if the allegations were accurate, this would be completely out of character for him,” she said in court, according to the Associated Press, emphasizing that nothing similar had happened in his life before.

In November 2025, Lil Nas X returned to court after completing an inpatient treatment program.

Following that hearing, his lawyer Drew Findling told reporters that the artist was doing very well and that the legal team was optimistic about resolving the case favorably, according to Rolling Stone.
