A Chiefs Fan Receives Taylor Swift’s Scarf, Describing it as Having the Familiar Scent of Home.

Beth Vancil shared with PEOPLE that Taylor Swift referred to her as the ‘good luck charm,’ observed her flushed face, and graciously presented her with a scarf.

Beth Vancil vividly recalls the chilly Chiefs-Dolphins game last Saturday when Taylor Swift, 34, sat right behind her. The renowned pop star left her scarf in Vancil’s care, and the fortunate Kansas City Chiefs enthusiast still has it at her home.

Describing the memorable gift, Vancil shared with PEOPLE on Monday that the scarf had a comforting fragrance reminiscent of home. Just before capturing pictures of her 4-year-old daughter wearing it, Vancil expressed the sentimental value of the scarf.

During the frigid game at Arrowhead Stadium, where temperatures plummeted to below zero, Swift, seated in her box at the stadium, noticed the cold conditions some fans were enduring. Responding to the situation, the 12-time Grammy winner, who is romantically involved with Chiefs player Travis Kelce, decided to gift Vancil, a resident of St. Louis, with the scarf – a thoughtful gesture amid one of the coldest games in NFL history.

In the Swiftie community, the significance of a red scarf is deeply tied to Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” a beloved song featuring lyrics about a red scarf left by an ex-boyfriend after their breakup.

Sharing her experience, Vancil, in an Instagram selfie with Swift, Mahomes, and friend Betsy Nacrelli, wrote, “We came, we saw, we conquered, we swag surfed with Donna [Kelce], Taylor, and Brittany [Mahomes], and Taylor gave me her scarf (it was not red and she doesn’t want it back).” Vancil, a fan who attended Swift’s Reputation Tour and has a particular fondness for the song “Love Story,” concluded the caption with Swift-inspired emojis: “🧣 🏈”

Beth Vancil recounted to PEOPLE, “During the game, Taylor dubbed me as her ‘good luck charm,’ noticed my face was flushed, and generously handed me her scarf.” In a twist of irony, Vancil mentioned that she was in Kansas City that weekend for an event related to the jewelry company Collections by Joya, which had just launched a new charm bar. This connection made the nickname even more apt.

With Swift present at the game, the Chiefs emerged victorious against the Dolphins, securing a 7-3 record.

The “Cruel Summer” singer, Taylor Swift, has also witnessed victories for the Chiefs in other games. These triumphs include the wins against the Chicago Bears on September 24, the New York Jets on October 1, the Denver Broncos on October 12, the Los Angeles Chargers on October 22, the New England Patriots on December 17, and the Cincinnati Bengals on December 31.

Prior to generously giving her scarf to Vancil, Taylor Swift, along with Mahomes, ensured they stayed warm at the game by donning matching jackets. These jackets were customized with the names and numbers of their respective significant others, showing support for both Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Notably, these specially designed jackets were created by Kristin Juszczyk, the spouse of San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk.
