The “Beautiful Things” singer delivered the performance on Aug. 25 during his American Heart World Tour stop in Columbus, Ohio. In a now-viral clip shared online, the 23-year-old can be seen dressed in a black vest and pants, holding the mic as he poured emotion into the 2015 ballad.
The video, posted by Pop Crave on X on Aug. 26, quickly drew reactions from users. One commenter wrote, “I don’t get the hate for this man — he can really sing.” Another added, “Wait, he sounds so good? Forget the moonbeam ice cream stuff and just find stronger writers.” A third chimed in, “Didn’t think anyone could do this song justice.” Others were more direct: “Bro can singggggg.”
Boone has long faced online chatter about his credibility as an artist. He’s been labeled everything from an “industry plant” to a “one-hit wonder.” Instead of shying away, he leaned into the criticism with humor — even poking fun at it in his “Mr. Electric Blue” music video, which debuted June 20. In one scene, a fictional record executive tells him, “We need something new, maybe good songwriting?” Boone jokingly fires back, “You know I can’t do that.”
The singer has also addressed criticism directly. In a TikTok post from April 21 (later deleted), he expressed frustration at vague negativity. “If you hate me or my music, at least have a good reason,” he wrote over a video of himself. He continued, “I just read a comment that said ‘I don’t even know why I hate Benson Boone but it feels right.’ Like WHAT? How am I supposed to improve after reading that? At least say something real, like ‘he just flips around too much, can he do anything else?’”
Now Grammy-nominated, Boone launched his American Heart World Tour on Aug. 22. The trek spans North America and Europe before concluding in the United Arab Emirates this December.
He previously told PEOPLE the tour marks a major leap forward in his career: “This show feels so much bigger than anything I’ve done before — it’s a huge step up from the last tour.” Boone added that this run includes an expansive stage, choreographed segments, upgraded outfits, and a more polished production. “We rehearsed for about two weeks, which might not sound like much, but for me, that’s a big deal,” he said.
