Billie Eilish is honing her music production skills on her own, apart from Finneas: ‘She’s really talented at it!’

In an interview with Guitar.com, her proud older brother shared that he assisted in setting up the pop superstar’s home recording studio.
After working with Finneas on the production of her first three albums, Billie Eilish is now learning how to produce music independently.
In a recent conversation with Guitar.com, Finneas, who has been the exclusive producer for all of her music and co-writes songs with her, aimed to dispel the myth that their early music was solely created on a laptop.
“We love guitar!” he emphasized, pointing to live instrumentation featured on her 2017 Don’t Smile at Me EP and parts of her debut album.
Finneas, 27, recently shared that he’s gradually stepping back from his role in Billie Eilish’s production process.
“I’ve been helping set up Billie’s home recording studio so she can produce music on her own, and she’s really talented at it!” he revealed in an interview with Guitar.com. “It’s amusing because I’m only giving her the bare essentials, so she can learn everything herself.”
Reflecting on his own early recording experiences, Finneas emphasized his modest approach to equipment. “I’m very ‘unsnobby’ about my gear. I tell her, ‘I could give you all the advanced tools I use now, but it took me years to get comfortable with them. If I give you this basic setup, it’ll immediately make sense to you,’” the Grammy winner explained.
During a July appearance on Hot Ones, the sibling duo discussed the creative tension behind recording Hit Me Hard and Soft, admitting that their strongest disagreements stemmed from a transitional period in both of their lives when they were striving to be more transparent with each other.
Finneas also confessed to being overly “self-righteous” at times, particularly in encouraging Eilish to embrace authenticity. “I learned a lot from letting my ego get in the way during that process,” he reflected.
In a May interview with Zane Lowe, Finneas admitted that he had considered stepping away from music production. Instead of pushing back, Billie Eilish empathized with his feelings.
“I told him, ‘I’ve felt like that before, and you’ve always been the one to keep us going. Now that you’re feeling this way, what does that mean for us? And how are we going to move forward?'”
