“That’s my guy, genuinely one of my favorite people in the world,” the ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ singer remarked in an unreleased excerpt from her Rolling Stone cover story.

Things are all good between Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford.

An unpublished excerpt from her Rolling Stone cover story, which emerged on May 17—the release date of her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft—reveals that the 22-year-old “Lunch” singer-songwriter remains on friendly terms with her ex-boyfriend, rocker Jesse Rutherford.

“That’s my guy, genuinely one of my favorite people in the world,” Eilish said of Rutherford, 32, in the excerpt.

Eilish indicated that she is currently single but also mentioned that she has no desire to enter a new relationship anytime soon.

“I plan on never dating again,” the nine-time Grammy winner joked before clarifying, “That’s not true, obviously. But no, I don’t see myself being serious with anyone until I find someone that really feels right to me, and that is not interesting to me right now.”

These comments come exactly one year after Eilish’s representative confirmed to PEOPLE that she and Rutherford had split. The pair, who were last seen together at Coachella in April 2023, dated for less than a year before breaking up.

“We can confirm Billie and Jesse did split amicably and remain good friends,” Eilish’s rep stated. “All cheating rumors are false. Both are currently single.”

Eilish echoed similar sentiments on her Instagram Stories in August when a fan asked about her relationship with Rutherford. “Very very good friends only,” she wrote about The Neighbourhood frontman, adding, “My homie forever.”

The “Ocean Eyes” singer and Rutherford were first romantically linked on October 13, 2022, when they were seen getting close at the vegan restaurant Crossroads Kitchen in West Hollywood. A few days later, they were spotted kissing outside Lal Mirch Indian restaurant in Studio City. On November 1, 2022, Eilish made their relationship Instagram official by sharing photos of their Halloween costumes, captioned, “Life is craaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy,” with a clown emoji.

Before their breakup, Eilish and Rutherford attended several industry events together, including the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars afterp

Since their split, Eilish has been more open about her love life, particularly as she comes to terms with her sexuality, which she initially intended to keep private. The “What Was I Made For?” singer told Rolling Stone that it was “really frustrating” when her coming out in Variety in December made headlines.

“The whole world suddenly decided who I was, and I didn’t get to say anything or control any of it,” she shared. “Nobody should be pressured into being one thing or the other… It takes a while to find yourself, and I think it’s really unfair, the way that the internet bullies you into talking about who you are and what you are.”

arty and the 2022 LACMA Art + Film Gala, where they made their public debut as a couple.

However, with songs like “Lunch” on her latest album, it appears that Eilish has grown more at ease with sharing her journey of self-exploration.

“That song was actually instrumental in shaping who I am today, to be honest,” remarked the Oscar winner. “I started writing some of it before having any experiences with a girl, and then finished it afterward.”

She continued, “I’ve been attracted to girls my entire life, but it wasn’t until last year that I fully realized I wanted to be intimately close to a woman.”
