The singer revealed on Thursday that her track titled “What What Was I Made For?” will be released on July 13, and it will be featured in the upcoming “Barbie” film.

Billie Eilish enthusiastically expresses her admiration for everything Barbie, including her upcoming song release for the Greta Gerwig-directed film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
On Thursday, the 21-year-old “Bad Guy” singer took to her Instagram Story to share nostalgic throwback photos. The pictures showcased a Barbie-themed birthday party from her childhood and moments of her unwrapping a Barbie castle on what appeared to be a Christmas morning during her younger years.
One highlight from her birthday celebration was a vibrant pink-and-yellow Barbie cake, featuring five layers of yellow cake with luscious chocolate frosting inside.
In another Instagram Story post, Eilish created anticipation for her Barbie-inspired song with the words “What Was I Made For?” written across the image. She also shared a photo of the letter “B” in Barbie logo font, which coincidentally represents her first initial, along with the song title displayed at the top.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! What Was I Made For??” exclaimed Eilish in the caption of her subsequent post. “COMING OUT JULY 13 AT 7AM PT. !!!!!!!!!!”

The Grammy-winning artist continued to provide further information about her contribution to Barbie the Album, set to be released on July 21, coinciding with the movie’s theatrical premiere.
“WE MADE THIS SONG FOR BARBIE AND IT MEANS THE ABSOLUTE WORRRRLLLD TO ME. THIS MOVIE IS GONNA CHANGE UR LIVES AND HOPEFULLY THE SONG WILL TOO,” Eilish expressed passionately. She tagged her brother and music producer partner Finneas, and added, “GET READY TO SOB.”
The album features an impressive lineup of renowned artists, including Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, Karol G, Charli XCX, PinkPantheress, Ava Max, Dominic Fike, Khalid, The Kid Laroi, Tame Impala, Haim, Gayle, and Fifty Fifty FIFTY featuring Kali. Additionally, Ryan Gosling, in his role as Ken, also performs a song for the album.
The album was initially announced in late May, along with a few “TBDs” (to be determined), one of which has now been confirmed as Billie Eilish’s song.
In 2021, Eilish made her debut appearance at the Met Gala, stunningly resembling the iconic Peaches N Cream Barbie, a collector’s item released in 1984.
The singer donned a peach-colored Oscar de la Renta corset ball gown, featuring off-the-shoulder tulle accents and an elegant trailing train.
Eilish explained her fashion risk to Keke Palmer on the red carpet, stating, “It just felt like the right time.” She expressed that she had been known for her edgier style, but felt a personal growth in recent years, prompting her to embrace a different aesthetic.
Reflecting on her childhood love for Barbie dolls, Eilish shared, “Barbie was my absolute favorite thing in the world. I would ask for them as Christmas gifts every single year. The dresses—honestly, they were my inspiration.”
Both Barbie and Barbie the Album are set to be released on July 21, offering fans a double dose of excitement.
