Demi Lovato shared with PEOPLE that she is focusing on self-care as she prepares for her upcoming It’s Not That Deep Tour, which begins in April to promote her newest album.

Demi Lovato is excited to reconnect with her fans on tour once again.

The “Fast” singer is preparing to hit the road for her upcoming It’s Not That Deep Tour, which begins in April — nearly two years after she openly discussed the possibility of stepping away from touring for good. She explained to PEOPLE that many people don’t realize how physically and mentally demanding touring can be, which is why she once considered stopping. Still, the experience of performing live and witnessing fans’ emotional reactions to both her new and classic songs ultimately drew her back. She described the feeling of seeing fans overwhelmed with joy as something powerful that leaves her deeply grateful and speechless.

Lovato acknowledged that while touring can be exhausting, she finds it incredibly enjoyable, especially because of the strong connection she feels with her audience.

As she prepares for her first stop in Orlando on April 13, she has been focusing on getting physically ready to handle 18 consecutive shows through late May. She shared that touring requires intense preparation, including consistent workouts and cardio training to ensure she can sing and dance without losing stamina. Strengthening her muscles is also important, particularly because she has dealt with back issues and wants to protect her body. Rehearsals are another major part of her preparation, and she believes all the effort will be worthwhile once the tour begins.

She also mentioned that remembering lyrics can sometimes be challenging due to her ADHD, as distractions during performances can cause her to briefly lose focus. With nine albums released — including her latest, It’s Not That Deep from October 2025 — she noted that keeping track of so many songs can be difficult at times.

To stay healthy on tour, Lovato plans to keep hydrated with products from Caliwater, which she is currently partnering with to promote a new blood orange flavor. Her backstage setup will also include snacks for energy and a humidifier to maintain her vocal health.

She added that one thing that would make touring even more enjoyable would be having her husband, Jordan “Jutes” Lutes, join her while she’s on the road.
