In a new interview with W Magazine, Harry Styles also discussed his upcoming Together, Together residency at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
Harry Styles has found a simple way to transition from the intensity of performing onstage to a more relaxed state backstage.
In a new cover story for W Magazine, the singer discussed his ongoing Together, Together residency, as well as the personal routine he follows immediately after each performance.
Styles revealed that his first stop after leaving the stage is the shower. He explained that washing off after a concert helps him mentally separate himself from the excitement and adrenaline of performing.
The Grammy-winning artist reflected on how he used to hold onto the rush of being onstage, especially during the early years of his career. With experience, however, he has learned to accept that the heightened feeling is temporary and allow himself to move on from it.
Styles described the contrast as striking. After performing in front of thousands of people, he heads backstage and showers, leaving him physically exposed and emotionally vulnerable. He noted that the feeling is almost childlike and completely different from the confident performer audiences had seen just minutes earlier.
Water has also become something of a recurring theme throughout Styles’ career. He pointed out that several of his music videos, including “Adore You” and “Music for a Sushi Restaurant,” feature him getting wet. According to the singer, it has become an ongoing joke that a shoot or video does not feel complete unless he ends up wet or cold.
Styles began his Together, Together residency in May at Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena before taking the shows to London’s Wembley Stadium, São Paulo’s Estádio do MorumBIS and Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros.
His next stop is New York City, where he is set to perform 30 shows at Madison Square Garden. Speaking to W Magazine, Styles admitted that New York can sometimes feel overwhelming because of its intense energy. Still, that same atmosphere is part of what makes performing there so special for him. He said the energy of the city can be felt throughout the concert, creating a powerful sense of momentum inside the venue.
