Kelly Clarkson is making her musical comeback with “I’d Be Lyin’,” her first single of the year, which is scheduled for release on Friday, July 17.
The 44-year-old singer introduced the track during an exclusive preview on her SiriusXM station, The Kelly Clarkson Connection, on July 13. Speaking about the song, Clarkson described it as a witty, sarcastic anthem and said she had an incredible time creating it.
She explained that the lyrics reflect the frustration of speaking honestly while realizing the other person only hears what they want to hear. According to Clarkson, pretending to agree with someone’s expectations would mean being dishonest, which inspired the song’s central message. Musically, she noted that the verses were influenced by Prince, featuring a punchy, rhythmic style that captures some of his signature energy without directly copying his sound.
Clarkson added that the track carries plenty of confidence and attitude before expanding into a soaring pop-rock chorus. She said the overall feel is similar to the uplifting, empowering songs that have become a hallmark of her career, adding that she has always enjoyed writing bold, anthem-like songs with a playful sense of sarcasm.
The release marks Clarkson’s first original music since “Where Have You Been,” which arrived in May 2025. Her most recent studio album, Chemistry, was released in 2023.
Ahead of the song’s debut, the Grammy-winning artist shared a black-and-white video from the recording studio on social media, offering fans a preview of the single. In the teaser, she sings about being misunderstood, expressing that others hear only what they want while comparing repeated lies to taking endless shots.
Beyond her music, Clarkson is preparing to return as a coach for Season 30 of The Voice, which is set to premiere on September 21.
Earlier this year, in February, she also revealed that The Kelly Clarkson Show will conclude this fall after a successful seven-season run. Reflecting on the program, Clarkson expressed heartfelt appreciation for her band, production team, guests, loyal viewers, and NBC, saying she felt grateful for the memorable experiences and support she received throughout the show’s run.
