The singer says her upcoming project, set for release on Friday, June 5, will continue to reflect her distinctive “Lizzo sound,” noting that it’s simply part of who she is as an artist.
A new chapter of Lizzo’s career may be approaching, but the singer says she will continue staying true to who she is.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE about her upcoming projects—including her Yitty swimwear line in collaboration with Fabletics—the “Good as Hell” artist teased the sound of her forthcoming album, 𝖡̶𝖨̶𝖳̶𝖢̶𝖧̶.
She explained that her music will always reflect her signature style, saying it will consistently carry the “Lizzo sound.” The album is scheduled for release on Friday, June 5.
Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, added that she doesn’t really know how to be anything other than herself musically. She also shared that after posting a preview of one of her new tracks, some listeners compared it to a ’90s sound, which she found interesting. Rather than defining her music herself, she said she prefers to let audiences interpret it in their own way.
The Grammy winner emphasized that her focus remains on creating well-crafted songs, saying she enjoys writing, producing, and building music that feels intentional and strong.
She announced the album on April 27, her 38th birthday. Around the same time, she also released its title track, which samples Meredith Brooks’ hit “Bitch.” The song had previously been performed live at WeHo Pride in June 2025.
On Instagram, Lizzo described the track as a dedication to women who are judged or labeled for setting boundaries, expressing themselves, or owning their power. She said the song challenges double standards and reclaiming the word “bitch” represents a form of empowerment and independence.
