Louis Tomlinson Reflects on One Direction’s Pride After Liam Payne Unveiled His Falsetto on a Memorable Track

To mark One Direction’s 16th anniversary, the singer-songwriter revisited the band’s entire catalog, listening to every album from beginning to end.
Sixteen years after One Direction first came together on The X Factor, Louis Tomlinson took fans on a nostalgic journey through the band’s history.
On Wednesday, July 23, the 34-year-old singer marked the group’s 16th anniversary by revisiting One Direction’s music catalog and sharing personal stories about several fan-favorite songs on social media. Among the memories, he highlighted a special moment involving late bandmate Liam Payne, recalling the first time Payne showcased his falsetto.
Tomlinson began the celebration by posting on X that he was listening to the band’s entire discography from beginning to end.
“Listening through the whole discography from start to finish. What a trip down memory lane. There are definitely some surprises on that first album,” he joked.
As he revisited More Than This from the band’s debut album Up All Night, Tomlinson remembered it as the song where Payne first embraced his falsetto vocals.
“I’m pretty sure this was when Liam first discovered his falsetto. I remember how proud we all were. He sounded incredible,” he shared on his Instagram Stories.
Later, Tomlinson posted a more heartfelt message, expressing gratitude to fans for their continued support while paying tribute to Payne, who passed away in October 2024 at the age of 31.
“Sixteen incredible years of One Direction. It’s amazing to think about how much our lives changed. Thank you for the endless love and support you’ve continued to show us over the years. I’ll be spending today listening to all the songs and remembering so many special moments. Thank you for every memory,” he wrote.
He concluded the message with a touching tribute to his late friend, saying he misses Payne every day and believes they would have celebrated the milestone together.
Throughout the anniversary celebration, Tomlinson also reflected on several other songs from One Direction’s catalog. Speaking about Moments, which was co-written by Ed Sheeran, he described it as a track filled with cherished memories and said it was one of the first songs that made him feel truly proud of his own vocals.
He playfully referred to Na Na Na as an example of “peak lyricism,” while saying Kiss You has always been one of his favorites.
Looking back on the 2012 hit Live While We’re Young, Tomlinson admitted it wasn’t among his personal top picks, but said filming its music video remains one of his fondest memories from the band’s early years.
