Actress and musician Meg Stalter has kicked off Pride Month with the release of a vibrant new single titled “GAY.”
On June 1, the Hacks star unveiled the song as the second preview of her upcoming debut album. Co-written by Stalter, 35, and Jesse Thomas, the track blends playful pop influences with energetic early-2000s dance sounds, while showcasing Stalter’s distinctive comedic style.
Featuring a driving beat, the lyrics celebrate queer identity and self-expression with witty lines that highlight confidence, individuality, and camp aesthetics. The song’s chorus embraces LGBTQ+ culture with an upbeat message, making it a natural fit for Pride celebrations and dance floors alike.
Before the release, Stalter promoted the track on TikTok through a humorous video. In the clip, she wished viewers a happy Pride Month and encouraged them to dance to the new song once it became available at midnight. The teaser concluded with a short preview of the track and a caption urging fans to stream it upon release.
“GAY” follows Stalter’s first single, “Prettiest Girl in America,” which debuted last month. She later released a remix of the song featuring Vanillamace.
According to a press statement, the original track and its remix accumulated more than 940,000 streams across music platforms during their first month. In addition, the songs generated over 4.4 million views through TikTok sound usage.
Stalter’s debut album, Crave, is expected to arrive later this summer. A press release describes the project as an exploration of identity, desire, and self-image, approached through the performer’s unique and unconventional artistic perspective.
