Hilton and Spears have been friends since the early 2000s.
Paris Hilton and Britney Spears’ longtime friendship goes beyond its decades-long history, as the two have also connected deeply through similar life experiences in the public eye.
During a Thursday, Jan. 29 appearance on I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario, Hilton spoke candidly about the “shared trauma” she and other famous women endured during the early 2000s. She recalled recently spending time with Spears in Mexico for the singer’s birthday, where they reflected on how harsh and unforgiving public treatment was during that era.
Hilton, now 44, explained that Spears is one of the few people who truly understands those experiences, noting that surviving such scrutiny ultimately strengthened them both.
The heiress later expanded on the topic when asked what advice she would offer her younger self. She described how tearing down women was once treated as entertainment, making that period especially lonely and difficult. Looking back, Hilton said she would reassure her younger self that despite the fear and hardship, those struggles would eventually have meaning.
She added that her pain ultimately became a source of purpose, allowing her to inspire others and advocate for children, women, and survivors around the world.
Hilton and Spears have known each other since their early 20s and have frequently spoken about their bond over the years. In November 2024, Hilton marked the 18th anniversary of the moment she joked that she and Spears “invented the selfie.”
Spears also reflected on their friendship in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, where she wrote that their time together was far less chaotic than media portrayals suggested and expressed gratitude for Hilton’s friendship. That same year, Hilton publicly praised Spears for sharing her story, acknowledging how emotionally demanding writing a memoir can be.
Hilton shared that working on her own book, Paris: The Memoir, was a deeply healing process and said she admired Spears’ strength and resilience.
Her appearance on DiDario’s podcast coincided with the promotion of her new documentary, Infinite Icon: A Visual Memoir, which premieres Friday, Jan. 30. Hilton previously described the project as a message encouraging people to embrace authenticity, reclaim their stories, and create positive change.
