Sabrina Carpenter Honors Dolly Parton 18 Months After Their “Please Please Please” Collaboration

Carpenter remembered the late music legend by saying she would carry Parton’s wisdom, lighthearted approach to life, and unforgettable sense of humor with her through difficult days.
A representative for Parton confirmed that she died following a brief battle with cancer. The singer had also been experiencing kidney and autoimmune-related health problems and passed away four days after being hospitalized in the Nashville area.
Carpenter, 27, shared an emotional tribute to Parton, honoring the special connection they formed after working together on a new version of Carpenter’s hit song “Please Please Please.” The two musicians joined forces in February 2025, giving Carpenter’s 2024 track a memorable country twist.
Reflecting on the first time she met Parton, Carpenter recalled being immediately struck by the singer’s warmth and personality. She wrote that her first thoughts were that Parton truly seemed “like an angel walking the earth” and jokingly added that the two looked as though they could have been sisters.
Carpenter went on to remember the laughter and meaningful conversations they shared. She said she would carry Parton’s wisdom, fun-loving perspective and remarkable sense of humor with her, especially during difficult moments.
“There will never be another you,” Carpenter wrote, expressing gratitude that fans had the opportunity to witness Parton’s unique talent, unforgettable voice, songwriting and generous spirit.
She also reflected on the lasting impact Parton had on the world, saying that her light would remain something people would continue searching for. Carpenter ended her tribute by expressing her enduring love for the country legend.
Their collaboration on “Please Please Please” had been a major moment for Carpenter, who has long considered Parton one of her musical idols. Following the release, she shared behind-the-scenes images from the music video and expressed how honored she was to have Parton appear on a song that held such personal significance.
Parton later discussed their collaboration in March 2025, revealing that she had established a boundary before agreeing to participate. The “9 to 5” singer explained that she did not want to swear, mock Jesus, speak disrespectfully about God or use profanity while appearing on camera.
Carpenter respected Parton’s request and altered one of the song’s more explicit lyrics. Instead of singing the original profanity-filled line in the chorus, she changed it to, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me like the others.”
