Shakira Calls Upcoming World Cup Final Halftime Show with BTS, Coldplay, Justin Bieber, and Madonna ‘A Historic Event’

The Colombian superstar shares her excitement about joining BTS, Coldplay, Justin Bieber, and Madonna for the inaugural FIFA World Cup Final halftime performance.
Shakira believes the inaugural FIFA World Cup Final halftime show will be a one-of-a-kind spectacle unlike anything audiences have experienced before.
Speaking on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, which aired on Wednesday, July 8, the 49-year-old Colombian singer shared her excitement about performing alongside Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, and Coldplay during the FIFA World Cup Final on July 19.
Reflecting on her involvement in the tournament, Shakira noted that after performing at the opening ceremony, she now has the opportunity to close the event with the final. She added that she wants her upcoming performance to stand apart from what fans saw at the tournament’s kickoff.
Her remarks followed FIFA and Global Citizen’s announcement that Justin Bieber, 32, had been added to the star-studded lineup, joining Shakira, Madonna, 67, and BTS for the first-ever halftime show at the FIFA World Cup Final. The 11-minute performance, set to take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is being creatively directed by Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin.
The Grammy-winning artist described the event as a landmark moment, emphasizing that it would be the first halftime entertainment ever staged during a FIFA World Cup Final. She joked that the lineup features “five incredible artists,” humorously adding that the other four are the amazing ones.
Shakira also shared her hope that Chris Martin, 49, will make an onstage appearance instead of remaining behind the scenes, saying she would love to see him perform as well.
Although fans are eager to know what the collaboration will look like, Shakira admitted that the details are still being finalized. She explained that all of the performers will come together to develop the show and said she is just as excited and curious as everyone else to see how everything comes together.
The FIFA World Cup has played an important role throughout Shakira’s career. Ever since she introduced the tournament’s official anthem, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” in 2010, she has considered the global football event to be especially meaningful to her.
