Carole King, the legendary Tapestry musician, is standing behind Taylor Swift following the pop star’s announcement that she now owns her full catalog of music.
Since revealing on May 30 that she had regained control of her masters, Swift, 35, has been met with waves of encouragement from fellow artists, friends, and fans alike—including Travis Kelce, Selena Gomez, and millions of devoted Swifties. Among the most meaningful gestures, however, came from one of her lifelong idols: Carole King.
Shortly after Swift posted the news on Instagram, King, 83, reshared the post to her own Stories, adding a heartfelt message alongside a celebratory photo of Swift: “You continue to inspire! 🩷🫶🎶.”
Though Swift hasn’t publicly responded to King’s message, it’s clear the praise meant a great deal. King has been a powerful influence in Swift’s life—her music was a constant presence in Swift’s household, thanks to her parents, Scott and Andrea, both devoted King fans.
Back in 2021, Swift had the honor of introducing King at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Reflecting on the impact of King’s work, Swift said, “I can’t remember a time when Carole King’s music wasn’t part of my life.” She added that her parents instilled a few core life values: treat others kindly, believe in yourself, and recognize Carole King as the greatest songwriter ever.
During that speech, Swift praised Tapestry as a pivotal record—not only for emotionally expressive listeners but even for “cats with dreams of being on iconic album covers,” she joked, alluding to her well-known love of felines.
Swift also acknowledged an important lesson she learned from King—one that resonates deeply now: “Carole taught artists like me that sharing your own story is worth the effort, even if the journey to be heard is difficult.”
Before that memorable Hall of Fame tribute (which also included Swift performing “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” in King’s honor), the two had crossed paths several times within the music industry, building a mutual admiration over the years.
