Chappell Roan Says She’d Be ‘Way Bigger’ If She ‘Wore a Muzzle’: ‘I’d Be More Successful’

Chappell Roan isn’t afraid to use her voice for more than just singing!

In a new interview with the BBC, published Jan. 19, the singer, 26, revealed that she will never hold back from speaking her mind even though she’s been dubbed a “spoiled diva” and accused of having “tantrums.”

She says she’s experienced harassment and having people “stalk” her parents’ home among the “crazy” acts she says pop stars are expected to stay quiet about. Last September, Roan went viral for clapping back at a photographer who was insulting stars on the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet. 

“I’ve been responding that way to disrespect my whole life — but now there are cameras on me, and I also happen to be a pop star, and those things don’t match,” the “Good Luck, Babe!” hitmaker told the BBC, referring to the viral moment. “It’s like oil and water.”

The “Red Wine Supernova” musician is nominated for six Grammy Awards at next week’s ceremony in Los Angeles, including best new artist, album of the year and best pop solo performance.

However, she told the BBC her career has taken a hit because she speaks up and rejects convention. 

“I think, actually, I’d be more successful if I was okay wearing a muzzle,” she joked to the outlet. “If I were to override more of my basic instincts, where my heart is going, ‘Stop, stop, stop, you’re not okay’, I would be bigger.”

“I would be way bigger … And I would still be on tour right now,” Roan added.
