Christina Aguilera Delivers Her Own Rendition of One of Barack Obama’s Beloved Songs During the Obama Presidential Center’s Grand Opening

Christina Aguilera delivered a memorable performance during the official opening celebration of the Obama Presidential Center.
The event was held on Thursday, June 18, at the Center’s John Lewis Plaza in Chicago, featuring a lineup of special musical performances from several acclaimed artists.
Aguilera, 45, impressed the audience with her powerful vocals as she performed her version of “What a Wonderful World,” a song known to be one of former President Barack Obama’s favorites. The classic track became widely recognized after Louis Armstrong recorded it in 1967.
While introducing Aguilera, Valerie Jarrett shared that the singer had never performed the song publicly before being invited to the event. She explained that Aguilera created a new arrangement specifically for the occasion, making the performance even more meaningful.
During the performance, Obama and his wife Michelle Obama were seen enjoying the moment, smiling throughout the song before giving Aguilera a standing ovation afterward.
The opening ceremony also featured appearances from several major performers, including Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, The Edge, Eddie Vedder, Marc Anthony, Tems, Common, Marsai Martin, and The Roots.
Obama, 64, has long been recognized for his passion for music and frequently shares his favorite songs and artists at the end of each year. His 2025 selections included artists such as Olivia Dean, Lady Gaga, and BLACKPINK.
The former president and Michelle Obama celebrated the launch of the 19.3-acre Obama Presidential Center with their daughters, Malia Obama and Sasha Obama. The center is designed as a global space focused on education, community engagement, and inspiring future leaders on Chicago’s South Side.
The campus features a museum housed inside an eight-story tower, along with a fitness facility, a branch of the Chicago Public Library, event areas, sports facilities, and outdoor gathering spaces. The center opened to the public on Friday, June 19.
Meanwhile, Aguilera recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of her holiday album My Kind of Christmas with a special concert film recorded at the Eiffel Tower.
During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the singer admitted that filming the performance was a frightening experience because she has a strong fear of heights.
Aguilera explained that performing high above the ground was extremely challenging, especially because she avoids activities involving heights. She recalled feeling nervous while riding the elevator up the Eiffel Tower and became even more alarmed when the elevator unexpectedly stopped during the journey.
