Coroner Announces Autopsy for Sinéad O’Connor as Medical Cause of Death Remains Undetermined

The London Inner South Coroner’s Court has announced that an autopsy will be conducted for Sinéad O’Connor, the 56-year-old musician who was found “unresponsive” at a residence in London. No medical cause of death was provided in the initial report. The coroner directed the autopsy to determine the cause of death, but the results may take several weeks to be available. Depending on the autopsy findings and family submissions, a decision will be made regarding the need for an inquest.

On Thursday, a spokesperson from Scotland Yard confirmed to PEOPLE that a 56-year-old woman was found deceased at a property in south London the day before. The Metropolitan Police received a call at 11:18hrs on Wednesday, 26 July, regarding an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area. The police have already informed the next of kin, and the spokesperson stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
