While attending an event promoting her cookbook One Plate at a Time: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food, the 33-year-old performer shared her excitement about launching her It’s Not That Deep tour this April. Speaking with Eli Rallo at 92NY in New York City on March 17, Lovato described this phase of her life as joyful and celebratory. She explained that her latest album reflects her current mindset, saying she feels happier than ever and wanted her music to capture that sense of fulfillment.
Although she’s eager to get back on stage, Lovato admitted she’s experiencing a mix of emotions about touring again. She said she feels thrilled but also somewhat nervous and overwhelmed, adding that she’s looking forward to reconnecting with fans across the country.
The singer shared that her setlist will include tracks from It’s Not That Deep as well as familiar favorites, and hinted that audiences might even hear some brand-new material.
When asked which song she’s most excited to perform live, Lovato pointed to “Sorry to Myself,” explaining that it closely aligns with the message of her cookbook. Inspired by her journey recovering from an eating disorder, the song reflects on the hardships she endured and expresses self-forgiveness. She described it as a way of reclaiming her story and moving forward with strength.
In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Lovato also opened up about the physical and mental challenges that come with touring, noting that it can be exhausting and demanding. She acknowledged that these pressures once made her consider stepping away from touring altogether.
Still, she emphasized that performing live remains deeply rewarding. Seeing fans connect with her music—especially moments when they become emotional during shows—makes all the effort worthwhile. For Lovato, the bond she shares with her audience is what makes touring such a meaningful experience.
