Demi Lovato is revisiting — and revising — her famously misunderstood 2015 answer about her “favorite dish.”
The 33-year-old singer, who uses she/they pronouns, appeared on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast on Thursday, Jan. 15, where the long-running joke about her answer resurfaced. This time, Lovato clarified her current pick.
“My latest favorite dish is actually a pickle mug,” she explained. “It’s a mug that’s shaped like a pickle.”
Lovato said the quirky item was an easy favorite, noting that it combined two things she loves. “I love pickles, and I love mugs,” she said, adding that her cousin Brayden gifted it to her for Christmas. “As soon as I got it, it became my new favorite dish.”
The conversation referenced a viral 2015 interview with Energy NRJ, when Lovato was asked about her favorite “dish.” Rather than naming a food, she gave a deadpan response, saying she preferred mugs because they’re easy to hold and protect your hands from hot drinks.
The moment quickly spread online, though Lovato later clarified that the answer was intentional. “For anyone who actually thinks I didn’t understand the ‘favorite dish’ question — you clearly don’t get my sense of humor,” she wrote on X at the time.
During her chat with Kelce, Lovato also revealed her pickle preference: a whole Vlasic dill pickle — not sliced or speared.
“They’re not like those movie theater pickles,” she said, which prompted Kelce to interrupt in surprise.
Lovato, who grew up in Texas, then explained that theaters in her hometown sold oversized deli-style pickles alongside popcorn, making them a nostalgic favorite.
