Dolly Parton Shares the Key Condition She Set for Sabrina Carpenter Prior to Their Collaboration

Before Dolly Parton agreed to collaborate on Sabrina Carpenter’s remix of “Please, Please, Please,” she set one important condition.
In an interview with Knox News published on March 18, Parton praised Carpenter, known for her hit “Espresso,” but mentioned that the young singer occasionally uses strong language — something Parton prefers to avoid.
“I told her, ‘Now, I don’t cuss,’” the “9 to 5” icon, 79, explained. “‘I don’t make fun of Jesus. I don’t speak poorly about God, and I don’t use foul language on camera — though I might if I’m mad enough.’”
As a result, Carpenter altered the original lyric in the remix, replacing the word “motherf—er” with the line, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me like the others.”
At 25, Sabrina Carpenter released Dolly Parton’s country-inspired version of her 2024 hit on February 14, featured in the deluxe edition of her album Short n’ Sweet.
In an Instagram post sharing a preview of the music video, Carpenter expressed her excitement:
“Dolly and me singing in a pickup truck!!!!!! I am so honored to have one of my biggest idols on a song that means so much to me. Short n’ Sweet deluxe is out now! Go watch and listen!!!! Love you forever @dollyparton 🤍🦋,” she wrote.
A few days later, Dolly Parton shared a charming TikTok video featuring herself and Sabrina Carpenter bonding on the set of their music video.
“Two blondes are one thing, but a collab with @Sabrina Carpenter is another 💋,” Parton captioned the post. “Behind the scenes of ‘Please Please Please,’ out now…”
The behind-the-scenes footage showed sweet interactions between the two stars as they exchanged compliments.
In one moment, Carpenter greeted Parton as she climbed into a blue truck and sat beside her in the driver’s seat. “Hi, how are you doing?” Parton asked, to which Carpenter replied, “How are you? You look amazing!”
In another moment, Parton and Carpenter were seen chatting and laughing together in the truck.
“We’re in a truck,” Parton said from the passenger seat. “We’re in a pickup truck,” Carpenter added with a smile. “Big hair. It’s all just … the stars are aligning.”
The vintage-inspired music video includes a subtle reference to Carpenter’s ex, actor Barry Keoghan. The video shows Carpenter and Parton driving down a country road with police in pursuit, while a handcuffed man lies in the back of the truck. Keoghan, 32, portrayed a criminal in the original music video.
