Dua Lipa Delights Audience with an Unexpected Performance at L.A.’s National PrEP Day Celebration: “Time to Party!”

The pop sensation thrilled attendees during MISTR’s celebrity-filled National PrEP Day celebration on Thursday, October 9.
Dua Lipa lit up the night with her LGBTQ+ fans while supporting HIV prevention efforts.
The 30-year-old British pop icon made a surprise appearance at MISTR’s inaugural National PrEP Day celebration, held Thursday, October 9, at The Abbey in West Hollywood.
“Let’s have a party!” Lipa cheered to the crowd as she performed her chart-toppers “New Rules,” “Don’t Start Now,” and “Houdini.” The event was hosted by Bob the Drag Queen.
The star-studded guest list featured celebrities such as Cardi B, Demi Lovato, Kim Petras, Matt Bomer, NeNe Leakes, Cynthia Bailey, Tamar Braxton, Tom Daley, and Omar Apollo, among others. Music throughout the evening was provided by Diplo, SG Lewis, and Joey with the Mustache.
Adding to the excitement, drag icons Aquaria, Plastique Tiara, Trinity the Tuck, Symone, and Shea Couleé wowed the audience with their own Dua Lipa-inspired performances before joining the singer on stage.
Thursday’s celebration marked the finale of a 10-day nationwide initiative aimed at enrolling 10,000 new participants in PrEP by Friday, October 10. PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a medication — taken daily or administered as a twice-yearly injection — that has been proven to lower the risk of HIV transmission by 99%.
Tristan Schukraft, MISTR’s founder and CEO, spoke to PEOPLE on the blue carpet, saying, “We have the power to end HIV. The tools already exist. Taking PrEP means taking charge of your sexual health, much like how the birth control pill empowered women when it was first introduced. By choosing PrEP, you’re helping stop the spread of HIV.”
Before her National PrEP Day appearance, Lipa had just finished a four-night run at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum for her Radical Optimism Tour, where she surprised fans by performing duets with Gwen Stefani and Lionel Richie.
