Dua Lipa Delivers a Soulful Rendition of AC/DC’s ‘Highway to Hell’ During Melbourne Show

Dua Lipa is embracing a carefree vibe and enjoying the moment.
During the first half of her Radical Optimism Tour’s opening night at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, the “One Kiss” singer paid tribute to Australia’s iconic rock band, AC/DC.
“I had this fun and wild idea,” Lipa, 29, told the audience at her March 17 performance. “I thought, ‘Why not cover a song by a local artist in every city we visit?’ Obviously, Australia has so many incredible musicians, so we figured we’d kick things off with something big. If you know it, sing along!”
To the crowd’s delight, Lipa delivered a soulful rendition of AC/DC’s 1979 hit “Highway to Hell.” She rocked a bold black lace outfit paired with red shorts and danced around the stage with a furry scarf, adding her own flair to the classic tune.
Fan-captured videos revealed the crowd enthusiastically singing along to the powerful chorus, with many praising Lipa’s impressive performance. “Fellow metal queen,” one user wrote on X. Another commented, “Her voice is perfect for rock. 😍.” A third fan added, “Rock album next please 🙏 @DUALIPA.”
On YouTube, viewers continued to rave about her vocal range. “I was amazed by how powerful her rock tone is,” one person shared. “She could honestly pursue a career in it.”
Another fan pointed out the band’s excitement, saying, “I don’t think they expected the crowd to be that into it. The smiles on their faces, especially the drummer — like he won a bet. She really delivered. Great job, everyone!”

When announcing her Radical Optimism album in March 2024, Dua Lipa reflected on the first time she encountered the phrase.
“A couple of years ago, a friend introduced me to the term ‘radical optimism.’ It really resonated with me, and I grew more curious as I began exploring it and incorporating it into my life,” Lipa shared in a statement. “The idea of navigating chaos with grace and feeling capable of overcoming any challenge really stuck with me.”
She went on to explain that her musical inspirations played a role as well. “At the same time, I found myself diving into the sounds of psychedelia, trip hop, and Britpop,” she said. “Those genres have always felt so boldly optimistic to me, and I wanted to carry that honesty and attitude into my recording sessions.”
According to Louder Sound, Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism album draws inspiration from rock music, making her choice to perform a classic rock hit during her tour’s opening night even more fitting.
The Houdini singer’s Radical Optimism Tour will continue with stops across Australia and New Zealand throughout March and April before moving on to Europe in May and June. Lipa will then bring the tour to the United States for a series of shows in September and October.
