The lawsuit claims that Samsung failed to respond to several cease-and-desist notices sent regarding the unauthorized use of the image.

Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the company of using her image without authorization to promote and sell televisions across the United States.

According to the complaint filed on May 8 in a California federal court, Samsung allegedly placed a copyrighted backstage photo of the Grammy-winning singer on TV packaging distributed nationwide. Lipa is seeking at least $15 million in damages, along with any profits linked to the sales of the televisions featuring the image.

The lawsuit argues that her likeness was used in a large-scale advertising campaign without her consent, compensation, or involvement. It further claims that the packaging created the misleading impression that she endorsed or had a partnership with the product, potentially influencing consumers to purchase the TVs because of her appearance.

Court documents also reference social media posts from fans who allegedly admitted they were persuaded to buy the televisions after noticing Lipa’s image on the packaging. One post reportedly stated that the buyer had not intended to purchase a TV until seeing the box featuring the singer.

In addition, the filing alleges that Samsung continued using the image even after receiving cease-and-desist letters from Lipa’s legal representatives following her discovery of the alleged infringement in June 2025. The complaint describes the company’s response as dismissive and claims the products are still being sold.

The disputed photograph, identified as “Dua Lipa – Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024,” is reportedly registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. Lipa’s attorneys contend that Samsung deliberately exploited her fame and public image to strengthen the marketing appeal of its televisions without providing compensation.
