Halsey is embracing their “wild style.”
On Thursday, Feb. 27, the 30-year-old alt-pop star dropped their latest track, Safeword—a high-energy single blending Ramones-style punk with Bikini Kill influences—alongside a bold, NSFW music video with BDSM-inspired visuals.
Helmed by stylist and Sedition Magazine editor-in-chief Lana Jay Lackey, the video opens with Halsey dressed in studded lingerie, a leather jacket, a matching cap, and knee-high boots.
As the high-energy, riot grrrl-inspired track plays on, Halsey fully embraces a dominatrix persona, delivering a powerful kick to a masked figure on the floor.
“Howling over the electrifying beat, they sing: ‘Pin me to the floor, swing me by the neck / Locked behind a door, is it time yet, time yet? / Don’t be such a bore, gimme respect / Are you feeling sore? Are you wet yet, wet yet?’
The power dynamic shifts as Halsey finds themselves on the receiving end, bound in rope while a masked dominator administers a spanking.
The “You Should Be Sad” singer is soon seen in several provocative scenarios—suspended upside down in a mesh bra, star-shaped pasties, and leggings; sipping a milkshake served on a tray by a latex-clad human coffee table; and even appearing to simulate self-pleasure.
Safeword arrives just months after Halsey’s fifth studio album, The Great Impersonator.
Ahead of the album’s release, the Ego singer paid tribute to the artists who influenced the project, channeling icons such as Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen, and Kate Bush.
Earlier this month, Halsey unveiled their 2025 For My Last Trick tour with a playful Instagram Reel, where the Without Me singer staged a spoof of their own “funeral.” This darkly humorous nod comes after Halsey revealed earlier in 2024 that they had been diagnosed with lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022, confronting the very real possibility of mortality.
Produced by Live Nation, the 32-city tour kicks off on May 10 at Toyota Pavilion at Concord in Concord, Calif. From there, Halsey will travel across the U.S. and Canada, with stops in major cities like Los Angeles, Nashville, Chicago, and Toronto, before concluding on July 6 at Yaamava’ Theater in Highland, Calif.
