Jennifer Lopez is set to light up the stage at the 2025 American Music Awards with a high-octane performance — and a freshly mended nose to match.
Earlier this month, the “This Is Me…Now” singer revealed she had suffered a minor mishap during rehearsals that required stitches. Speaking ahead of the upcoming Monday show, Lopez told PEOPLE that she’s doing just fine now.
“I banged my nose during rehearsal and needed a few stitches,” Lopez, 55, explained. “It wasn’t a big deal. These things happen — we’ve got a pretty intense routine, and a few of us have picked up some bumps and bruises along the way.”
Lopez shared a glimpse of her injury on her Instagram Stories on May 13, posting a photo that showed a small gash across the bridge of her nose. A follow-up image showed her icing the injury, smiling through the discomfort. “So… this happened,” she wrote in one post, later thanking her physician in another: “Thank you for stitching me up Dr. Diamond. A week later and a whole lotta ice, I’m good as new.”
While fans are still guessing which performance she was rehearsing when the accident occurred, the suspense will end on awards night. Lopez — who is also hosting this year’s AMAs — is slated to perform alongside a star-studded lineup, including Becky G and Manuel Turizo, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Gloria Estefan, Benson Boone, Lainey Wilson, Renée Rapp, and Alex Warren, who will be making his awards show debut. Iconic artists Janet Jackson and Rod Stewart will also take the stage, receiving the ICON Award and Lifetime Achievement Award, respectively, while Zac Brown will be honored with the inaugural Veterans Voice Award.
On May 22, Lopez offered fans a behind-the-scenes peek at her prep via a series of black-and-white Instagram photos showing her laughing and dancing with her team. “It takes a village. DANCE AGAIN,” she captioned the post — a nod to her 2012 greatest hits album and its popular track featuring Pitbull.
Returning as AMAs host nearly a decade after her 2015 stint, Lopez sees this moment as a milestone in her music journey.
“I’ve been connected to the AMAs for so long — I think I’ve performed there around 10 times, which is kind of wild,” she said. “We recently looked back at one of my earliest performances to see how far everything’s come. It all feels like it just happened yesterday.”
