Jessie J Performs on Stage for the First Time Since Breast Cancer Surgery with Her 2-Year-Old Son in the Audience

After postponing her U.S. tour last month to prioritize her health, the singer returned to the stage on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the BBC Radio 2 In the Park festival in England.
Jessie J made a heartfelt return to live music.
After canceling her U.S. shows and pushing back the U.K. and European legs of her tour to 2026 last month, the Domino singer stepped back on stage for the first time since her breast cancer surgery.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, the 37-year-old performed at the BBC Radio 2 In the Park festival in England, where her 2-year-old son, Sky Safir — whom she shares with partner Chanan Safir Colman — got to watch her perform live for the very first time.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Jessie grew emotional when speaking to the audience.
“Some of you may know, some of you may not, but I had breast cancer surgery 11 weeks ago today,” she told fans. “At my last show, I didn’t know what was coming next. I’m still in recovery, but I’m definitely not ready for Babins just yet.”
With a smile, she added: “I mean, I am ready — but my doctors are like, ‘slow down, girl.’ You can take the girl out of Essex, but you’ll always put her back there.”
The pop star went on to express her gratitude, saying: “I can’t explain how thankful I am to see so many of you singing along after all these years. It honestly feels like I’m still a kid, getting to do what I love most.”
What made the night even more meaningful, Jessie shared, was that it marked the first time her son had seen her on stage. Sky, wearing protective headphones, waved from backstage before making his way out to join his mom under the lights.
According to the Daily Mail, Jessie J opened up to the crowd before debuting her latest track, Living My Best Life, explaining why the song carries such weight for her.
“Some of you might know this, some of you might not, but just two weeks before this song came out, I was diagnosed,” she said. “Everyone around me suggested we stop and put everything on pause, but I thought, that’s not what life is about.”
She went on to share her perspective: “Life is about standing in the middle of the storm, holding up your umbrella, and moving forward. Music, at least for me, is healing. It’s what makes me want to get up every morning and keeps me excited about being alive.”
Jessie added that she’s “thankful to be able to create songs that can bring people comfort, whether they’re having a tough day or celebrating a good one.”
Introducing the track, she told fans: “This song is called Living My Best Life, and that’s exactly what I’m doing every single day. None of us know when our last day will be, so hug the people you love and soak it all in.”
Offstage, the Masterpiece singer also shared behind-the-scenes footage from the festival on Instagram on Monday, Sept. 8. Posting a compilation soundtracked by her new single Believe in Magic, she reflected: “‘An Essex girl with a mystic meg haircut’ was my first caption on MySpace back in the day. Not much has changed. Born and raised. This was a day I’ll NEVER forget. Huge thanks to my team both on and off stage.”
She also gave a shout-out to BBC Radio 2 and videographer Mitch Peryer, writing: “Thank you for making this such a special memory 🎥. You’re crazy talented and so fun to work with. Thank god we crossed paths on the street. Magic!” Jessie admitted the show turned out to be “the absolute highlight of my weekend,” adding, “I loved every single minute.”
In the clips, Jessie was seen spending time with her son, preparing backstage, chatting in interviews, and performing for the crowd.
Her appearance followed recent news that she was postponing her Acoustic Tour in the U.K. and Europe until 2026 and canceling U.S. dates to prioritize her health. In a statement released on Aug. 28, she explained: “Unfortunately I need a second surgery before the end of this year. It’s nothing major, but it falls right in the middle of the tour schedule. I hate to let people down, but I need to focus on healing.”
That update came about three months after Jessie first revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. In June, she told fans she learned of the illness just before the release of her track No Secrets. “I’ve been in and out of appointments ever since,” she said at the time, adding that she planned to “step away for a while after Summertime Ball to undergo surgery.”
