Joe shared on the Hey Jonas podcast that he eventually reached out for professional help. He recalled becoming so emotional during his first therapy session that he spent nearly an hour crying before answering the therapist’s opening question. Looking back, he described the experience as incredibly beneficial and an important step toward improving his well-being.

During a recent episode of the Hey Jonas podcast with his brothers, Nick and Kevin Jonas, Joe explained that the release of his 2011 solo record Fastlife became a difficult period in his life. Having experienced major success with the Jonas Brothers, he expected similar results as a solo artist. When the album failed to meet those expectations, he began questioning his own value and admitted that he had tied his self-worth too closely to his achievements.

Released in 2011, Fastlife reached No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart. Its lead single, “See No More,” climbed to No. 92 on the Billboard Hot 100.

As he struggled emotionally, Joe said he began experiencing panic attacks along with physical symptoms that prompted multiple medical examinations and blood tests. Although doctors found no physical health issues, one physician suggested that the cause might be emotional and recommended therapy. At first, Joe rejected the idea, believing he did not need professional counseling.

Over time, however, he realized his emotional state was affecting his daily life. Living in New York City at the time, he often spent hours riding his bicycle to escape the constant pressure of checking social media and reading public reactions to his album. While those rides offered temporary relief, he eventually recognized that they were only helping him avoid the deeper issue.

Joe ultimately decided to meet with a therapist. He recalled becoming so overwhelmed during his first session that he spent nearly an hour crying before he could answer the therapist’s opening question. Despite the emotional experience, he described therapy as a turning point that greatly benefited his mental health.

The singer also shared that counseling has continued to play an important role throughout different stages of his life. Although he admitted he could be more consistent with attending sessions, he said therapy has repeatedly helped him navigate major personal challenges.

Joe emphasized that while support from friends and family is valuable, speaking with a trained professional offers a different perspective. He believes therapists ask questions that encourage deeper reflection, making them an important source of guidance during difficult times.
