“Kelly Clarkson Joins Gloria Estefan for a Spanish Performance: ‘Embrace Your Inner Cuban!’”

In an exclusive preview of Songs & Stories with Kelly Clarkson shared with PEOPLE, the singer joins forces with Gloria Estefan for a breathtaking rendition of “Mi Tierra.”
“I adore all of your songs, but this one is my absolute favorite. It’s the performance I’ve been looking forward to the most today. Hopefully, I don’t mess up the Spanish,” Clarkson, 43, tells Estefan, 67, who revealed that it also happens to be Cyndi Lauper’s favorite track.
“The sound is unlike anything else—it’s so distinctive, so unique, and just really cool,” Clarkson adds.
Estefan reflected on the original release, saying she felt “overjoyed” with how the 1993 hit came together, noting that “we had many of the greatest Cuban musicians living in the U.S. contribute to the album.”
“That’s what makes it authentic,” Estefan remarks.
The two artists then launched into part of the Spanish track together, and after finishing, they leapt from their seats to share a warm hug.
“It wasn’t flawless, but I adore that song so much,” Clarkson admits, to which Estefan replies, “You’re too hard on yourself!”
With a laugh, Estefan adds, “You can be Cuban!”
The complete episode—where Clarkson and Estefan explore the cultural meaning and lasting influence of Estefan’s music—airs Aug. 26 at 10/9c on NBC, with streaming available the next day on Peacock.
Prior to Estefan’s appearance, Clarkson sat down with Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas to reflect on the stories behind some of their most beloved hits.
During the interview, the Jonas Brothers revealed their commitment to performing their 2008 ballad “When You Look Me in the Eyes” indefinitely.
“It’s a song we wrote years ago with our dad,” one of the brothers shared. “I can still picture us recording it in the basement of an office building in New Jersey. We had to stay really quiet while walking through the hallways.”
Even after more than a decade, Joe noted that the track continues to carry emotional weight for the group.
“It meant so much to create it with our dad, and now, all these years later, to play it live and hear the fans sing along,” he said. “Honestly, it’s one of the first songs that reflects young love, discovering who we are, and traveling the world. It’s one we’ll perform forever.”
