Miley Cyrus Faces Disruption at Movie Premiere as Fans Mistake Event for Live Concert: ‘Will You Be Singing?’

On June 6, the singer debuted her new film Something Beautiful, a companion piece to her recently released album of the same title.
During the Tribeca Festival screening of Something Beautiful—a film tied to Miley Cyrus’ latest album of the same name—the event was momentarily disrupted by vocal attendees expecting a live performance from the star.
The 32-year-old singer and actress unveiled her new project at the Beacon Theatre as part of the annual New York City festival on Friday, June 6.
While participating in a Q&A session with producer Panos Cosmatos and co-directors/co-writers Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter, Cyrus was interrupted by audience members demanding she sing.
One person reportedly shouted, “We paid $800. Sing,” while another added, “We thought this was a concert.”
In response, Cyrus chose to address the crowd’s expectations with a spontaneous a cappella performance of her 2009 hit “The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie.
After clips of the incident circulated widely online, many of Miley Cyrus’ fans took to social media to defend her.
“She’s incredibly kind and patient — those so-called fans were completely out of line,” one user commented. Another added, “She doesn’t owe them anything. The way she handled it was full of class. They should be embarrassed.”
A third supporter weighed in: “Maybe do a little homework before showing up. She’s a human being, not someone you can just command to sing 🫠.”
As of Saturday, June 7, representatives for both Cyrus and the Tribeca Festival had not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Cyrus released her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful, on May 30. A theatrical release of the accompanying visual film is expected later this month.
