“She’s really happy with Maxx,” the source shares with PEOPLE. “Their life together is simple and peaceful.”

Miley Cyrus is experiencing the life she’s always hoped for.
Following the Dec. 2 announcement that the Avatar: Fire and Ash songwriter, 33, is engaged to musician Maxx Morando, a source exclusively tells PEOPLE that Cyrus is genuinely excited about this new chapter.
“Miley couldn’t be happier about the engagement,” the insider shares, noting that Morando, 27 — the drummer for the band Liily — popped the question a few weeks earlier. “The ring fits her perfectly. It has a unique, bohemian rock feel. It’s stunning. She didn’t feel the need to make a big public announcement about it. Maxx is a very private person, and that’s starting to influence how she approaches her own life.”
Cyrus and Morando have shared a home for several years. “She really flourishes with him. They spend most of their time at home and love collaborating on music. It’s the kind of life she’s always hoped to build.”
Their engagement was revealed shortly after the couple attended the Los Angeles premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash on Dec. 1. While walking the red carpet, Cyrus was photographed wearing a sparkling ring on her left hand.
According to Deux Moi, she was first seen with the ring in mid-November. The piece also appeared in photos Cyrus posted to Instagram on Nov. 23 from her 33rd birthday dinner, where she was pictured blowing out candles.
“She adores the life she shares with Maxx,” the source adds. “Everything feels steady and peaceful. She’s very protective of her relationship. She’s truly thriving. Her loved ones absolutely adore Maxx.”
Cyrus and Morando were first linked in December 2021 after being spotted close backstage during her NBC special, Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, in Miami. They seemed to confirm their relationship in April 2022 when they were photographed kissing in West Hollywood.
In her July 2023 British Vogue cover story, Cyrus revealed that she and Morando met on a blind date. “It was blind for me, not so much for him,” she joked. “I thought, ‘Worst case, I can just leave.’”
While promoting Avatar: Fire and Ash — which includes her song “Dream as One” — on Dec. 2, the “Flowers” singer briefly commented on her engagement.
“The one thing I can say is that keeping things private and intimate has been really meaningful for us,” she explained. “I’m amazed we’ve actually managed it and grateful to have more control over what we share.”
