The special will debut on March 24, marking 20 years since the original series premiered on the Disney Channel on March 24, 2006.

Hannah Montana is making a comeback. On Tuesday, March 10, Disney+ released the first trailer for its upcoming Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, featuring Miley Cyrus returning to the role that launched her into worldwide fame.
The preview shows Cyrus, now 33, putting on the character’s signature blonde wig and stepping onto recreated sets from the beloved series. The original show followed teenager Miley Stewart, who secretly balanced a normal life with her hidden identity as pop sensation Hannah Montana.
As she walks through the familiar hallways of Stewart’s Seaview High School in the trailer, Cyrus admits she is already feeling emotional.
Podcast host Alex Cooper from Call Her Daddy — who will host the special — is also seen in the trailer telling Cyrus that the series “defined a generation.”
The footage also features Cyrus, dressed as Hannah Montana, sharing a dance with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who portrayed Robby Ray Stewart on the show, as well as flipping through photo albums with her mother, Tish Cyrus.
Disney previously revealed that the special was recorded in front of a live audience and will feature a detailed interview with Cyrus. It will also include rare archival material from the making of the series, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
In a press release, Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis said the show inspired countless viewers to dream big, express themselves, and embrace all sides of who they are — a legacy that continues to resonate across generations. Davis added that collaborating with Cyrus on the project was a dream and described the special as a tribute to the fans who have remained devoted since the show first premiered nearly two decades ago.
Cyrus also shared her own thoughts in a previous statement, saying Hannah Montana will always be an important part of her identity. What began as a television series, she explained, eventually became a shared journey that influenced both her life and the lives of many fans, something she remains deeply grateful for.
She added that she feels proud the show still holds meaning for people years later, describing the anniversary celebration — which she calls the “Hannahversary” — as her way of honoring and thanking the fans who have supported her for the past 20 years.
