Miley Cyrus recently delivered a nostalgic surprise during a private fan concert, treating attendees to a rare live performance of her 2009 hit, “The Climb,” from Hannah Montana: The Movie.
The Grammy-winning artist, 32, playfully teased the song before launching into it. “I’m not singing ‘The Climb,’ but I could,” she joked, as pianist Michael Pollack began playing its familiar intro. The intimate audience of around 100 fans erupted in excitement, singing along from the first note.
While performing, Cyrus paused to check in with the crowd, asking, “Is that the right word?” and “Do you know the chorus?”—making the moment feel even more personal and unscripted.
When the performance wrapped, she quipped that her drummer and boyfriend, Maxx Morando, had “been waiting since middle school” for the chance to play that particular song.
This marked the first time in years that Cyrus has publicly performed the emotional ballad, a fan favorite that has remained close to her heart.
Back on August 11, 2024, during her Disney Legend Award acceptance speech, Cyrus reflected on her time portraying the iconic character. “A lot has changed, but somehow everything feels the same,” she said. “I’m still proud to have been Hannah Montana.”
Just ahead of the release of her album Something Beautiful on May 30, Cyrus hosted an exclusive listening session in collaboration with TikTok at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. She handpicked the lucky fans invited to the event.
Following the album playback, she surprised the audience with live renditions of new tracks like “End of the World,” “More to Lose,” and “Easy Lover,” alongside fan-favorite “Flowers” and the long-awaited return of “The Climb.”
The event was attended by familiar faces, including her mother Tish Cyrus, sister Brandi Cyrus, and actress Anya Taylor-Joy. Backed by a band featuring Morando on drums, Jonathan Rado on guitar, and Pollack on piano, Cyrus described the new project as a deeply personal snapshot: “It’s a reflection of my life and everything I’m living through.”
