Nicole Scherzinger Addresses Concert Delay, Expresses Regret Over Fans’ Long Wait
Nicole Scherzinger has spoken out following a recent London concert that began nearly 45 minutes behind schedule.
In an interview with The Sun, the 47-year-old performer admitted she was “devastated” and “horrified” to learn that attendees of her Oct. 6 show at the Royal Albert Hall had been waiting much longer than she realized. She explained that the issue stemmed from a misunderstanding about the show’s start time.
“I didn’t realize until afterward that people had been sitting there for so long,” Scherzinger said. “When I found out, I was completely heartbroken and embarrassed. I thought the concert was supposed to start at 8 p.m., but apparently, people were asked to be seated by 7:15. If I were in their place, I’d have been frustrated too.”
The singer went on to explain that her schedule was packed leading up to the show, leaving her with little time to rehearse with the orchestra or even complete a full soundcheck.
“I was trying so hard to make the performance at the Royal Albert Hall as perfect as possible,” she said. “I was running around making sure every detail was right. Honestly, I thought if I was just 15 minutes late, it would be worth it to deliver the best show I could. It’s actually amazing I got onstage only about 20 minutes late, considering I thought my call time was 8.”
Despite the hiccup, Scherzinger expressed deep appreciation for her audience’s patience and energy throughout the evening.
“I’m so grateful that everyone stayed,” she added. “By the end of the night, the whole crowd was up and dancing. Their understanding and generosity meant the world to me.”
The Royal Albert Hall concert marked Scherzinger’s first major solo performance in the U.K. in 13 years. The one-night-only show featured classic musical numbers as well as fan-favorite hits from her Pussycat Dolls era, including “Buttons” and “Don’t Cha.”
Earlier this year, Scherzinger concluded her critically acclaimed Broadway run in Sunset Boulevard, a performance that earned her the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in June.
Reflecting on her success, she told PEOPLE in May, “I’ve worked for years to reach this moment, and it’s truly changed my life. I’ve never been happier. I finally feel like people are seeing the side of me I’ve always wanted to share with the world.”
