Olivia Rodrigo Joins Weezer for an Epic Lollapalooza Performance: ‘WTF, This Is a Dream Come True’

During her headlining performance on August 1 at Lollapalooza, Olivia Rodrigo shocked the crowd by inviting Weezer to join her on stage.
Who could say no to an unexpected Weezer collaboration?
On Friday, August 1, Olivia Rodrigo surprised fans during her headlining performance at Lollapalooza by bringing out the legendary band to perform their classics “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So.”
In a TikTok video captured by a fan and now circulating widely, Rodrigo, 22, shared that Weezer was the first band she ever saw live.
“You never forget your first concert—it’s such a meaningful experience,” said the “Vampire” singer.
She continued, “I’ll never forget mine. It was an unforgettable night seeing this amazing band perform, and I can’t believe they’re here with me tonight. Everyone, give it up for Weezer!”
Rodrigo also posted a video on her own TikTok account showing her and Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo side by side, strumming guitars and singing “Buddy Holly” together.
She captioned the post, “with Weezer at lollapalooza!!!!! wtf what a dream!!!”
Rodrigo’s unexpected collaboration with the “Island in the Sun” rockers at Lollapalooza came just weeks after she surprised fans in London by inviting Ed Sheeran on stage during her headlining performance at BST Hyde Park.
Rodrigo and Sheeran, 34, performed his 2011 breakout hit “The A Team” together, marking nearly three years since their first meeting.
Sheeran shared a video of the duet on Instagram, writing, “I’ve been a fan of Olivia since ‘Drivers License’ blew me away back in early 2021. Both of her albums—Sour and Guts—are incredible. I don’t skip a single track.”
He recalled their first encounter at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, where they were seated next to each other with Rodrigo’s mom, Jennifer, and his own father, John. From that night on, the two kept in touch.
“I was planning to watch her Hyde Park set anyway,” Sheeran said, “but she messaged and asked if I’d sing ‘The A Team’ with her, which was such a thrill.”
Reflecting on the song’s legacy, Sheeran noted, “It turns 15 this year, and I remember performing it to empty rooms back in 2010. Sharing it now with a whole new generation—and with one of the brightest rising stars—is a real honor.”
Following her Lollapalooza appearance, Rodrigo concluded her GUTS tour with performances at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival on August 1 and 3. Meanwhile, Weezer is set to continue touring through the U.S. in August, September, and October before heading to South America for a trio of shows in November.
