The British artist opened up about his most humiliating performance during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Monday, January 13.
Robbie Williams is sharing another embarrassing performance story!
The singer, 50, said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Monday, Jan. 13, that he once taunted a group of fans at his show for not standing up — in what turned out to be his most mortifying moment on stage.
“I confused the wheelchair section in my show for people who weren’t standing up and enjoying themselves,” Williams told host Andy Cohen. “And I berated them and I got the whole audience to point at them and boo and then stamp their feet and go, ‘Out! Out! Out!’ ”
Cohen, 56, shook his head as fellow guest Julia Stiles gasped along with the audience in reaction to the story.
“And then I looked over to the side of the stage and my manager was there going like this [motioning waving arms] and he went [motioning pushing a wheelchair],” continued Williams. “And I was like, ‘Oh … okay.’ ”
Despite the major mishap, Williams shared that he managed to regain the audience’s favor swiftly. “The way to recover from that is with a ballad,” he explained, specifically mentioning his 1997 hit, “Angels.”
The “Feel” artist also noted that the incident occurred “before phones,” prompting both Cohen and Stiles, 43, to respond with relief, exclaiming, “Thank goodness!”
In an Instagram post from August 2023, Williams recounted another awkward on-stage incident, admitting that he had an accident during a performance with his band, Take That.
In August 2023, Williams shared a humorous Instagram post featuring a cartoon that read, “Sometimes your favorite artists fart on stage.” In the caption, he revealed that he had suffered “horrendous” food poisoning during Take That’s reunion tour.
“A few days later, we were performing at the Ajax stadium in Amsterdam,” Williams explained. “Still far from fully recovered, I stepped onto the stage. I found myself in the tricky situation of not being able to ‘trust a fart,’ which was unfortunate because that’s exactly what I had to do during my opening song, Let Me Entertain You.“
“As you might guess, it turned out to be more than just a fart,” he admitted. “But, ever the professional, I kept my composure and gave 100% to the performance,” Williams added with humor, noting, “A gig parp at any other time might have been liberating.”
