The “Espresso” singer shouted, “Oh my God!” as she quickly backed away from the fireworks during her headlining performance on August 10.
Sabrina Carpenter had a surprising encounter with a firework on stage over the weekend, but luckily, the moment was brief!
During her headlining performance at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music Festival on Saturday, August 10, the “Espresso” singer was startled and jumped off a platform when a firework got uncomfortably close, as seen in footage from the event’s livestream.
Carpenter, 25, was dancing when the pyrotechnics unexpectedly went off behind her, causing her to scream and leap forward. She glanced back, screamed again, and quickly ran away, covering her mouth as she dodged the stray sparks.
“Oh my God!” she exclaimed while continuing to flee from the fireworks on the Golden Gate Park stage.
Despite the scare, the star seemed unharmed by the pyrotechnics, as she completed her Outside Lands performance and kept posting on social media after the festival.
During her set at the Bay Area festival, Carpenter—who stepped in as the Saturday headliner after Tyler, the Creator—added a creative twist to her “Nonsense” outro, delivering its most iconic part in a Shakespearean manner. She also brought a special guest on stage for the occasion.
For the outro, where she customizes the ending of her 2022 track based on the location, a man joined her on stage with a scroll. The pop star then read from it to tease her upcoming album, Short n’ Sweet.
“Soon cometh my album, so exciting. My heart doth pound beneath my chest, so mighty,” she playfully sang, according to live stream footage. “Outside Lands, it’s like thou art inside me.”
Carpenter surprised the crowd by joining Kacey Musgraves on stage for a duet of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” as captured in performance footage.
The Deeper Well musician and the Disney alum both dazzled in sparkling mini dresses as they teamed up to perform the 1966 classic.
Reflecting on the weekend in an Instagram post on Sunday, August 11, Carpenter shared her excitement
She went on to express her gratitude, saying, “Thank you to everyone who came. A special thank you to the angel that is @spaceykacey for joining me to sing and dance to Nancy Sinatra :’). And thank you to my whole team and crew. All the talented people who made this show happen on and off stage, I love you all so much.”
Short n’ Sweet—featuring the star’s hit singles “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”—is set to drop on Friday, August 23, as Carpenter announced in June.
“MY NEW ALBUM IS COMING OUT AUGUST 23rd!!!!💋,” she wrote on social media at the time. “This project is very special to me, and I hope it becomes something special for you too.”
