During the Eras Tour show in New Orleans on October 26, Swift joined Carpenter in singing the line, “I’m working late, ’cause I’m a singer.”
Taylor Swift showed her love for “Espresso” during a surprise duet with Sabrina Carpenter at her New Orleans concert on October 26. While performing a mashup of their songs, Swift, 34, asked Carpenter, 25, for permission to sing the viral lyrics from “Espresso.”
In a TikTok video shared by a fan, Swift can be heard asking her former Eras Tour opener, “The first thing I was wondering… Can I do it?” to which Carpenter enthusiastically responded, “You can do it!”
Excitedly, Swift exclaimed, “Oh my god, I’m about to do it,” before launching into the lyric, “I’m working late, ’cause I’m a singer,” as the crowd joined in and sang along.
Swift continued singing the rest of the second verse of “Espresso” before seamlessly transitioning into her No. 1 hit “Is It Over Now?” from 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which fittingly includes the lyrics, “Let’s fast forward to three hundred takeout coffees later.”
The duo then blended “Please Please Please” with the other two tracks during the acoustic surprise songs segment of the New Orleans show.
Before their duet, Swift, known for the song “Fortnight,” called Carpenter on the phone, as captured in a video shared on X. Speaking to Carpenter on speakerphone, Swift mentioned she was performing in New Orleans and said, “We all love you so much,” before asking, “Why aren’t you here with us?”
Swift then asked the “Taste” singer if she could “come down to the stadium real quick,” adding, “How long would that take you?”
Carpenter responded, “It would probably take me like five seconds,” as the audience erupted in cheers.
Swift replied, “Okay, see you soon, love you. Bye!”
