The renowned artist, aged 33, is officially credited with mobilizing more than 35,000 individuals, who were first-time voters, to register following her Instagram post on National Voter Registration Day this past Tuesday.
Andrea Hailey, the CEO of Vote.org, disclosed the statistics generated by the link shared within the pop icon’s message, urging her fans to exercise their voting rights. Notably, in addition to the 35,000 new registrations, an additional 50,000 individuals confirmed their existing voter status.
Furthermore, Hailey also highlighted a remarkable 115% surge in the number of 18-year-old registrants when compared to the previous year. She additionally noted that Taylor Swift’s post attracted a total of over 1.3 million visits to the site.
The CEO of Vote.org expressed her gratitude to the singer-songwriter, stating, “Dear @taylorswift13 – let these statistics be our heartfelt message of appreciation to you for amplifying the voices of voters! 💌 Together, we illuminate the essence of democracy! 💫”
Vote.org’s Communications Director, Nick Morrow, also revealed that the website experienced an impressive average of 13,000 users every half-hour.
In a charming tribute to Taylor Swift’s birth date and favorite number, he playfully added, “13! Let’s just say her reputation as a strategic genius is well-deserved! #NVRD,” in reference to National Voter Registration Day.
On Tuesday, the singer behind “Cruel Summer” took to her Instagram account, boasting 272 million followers, to motivate her fans to participate in the forthcoming midterm elections. She shared a statement on her Instagram Stories, asking, “Have you registered to vote yet?”
Acknowledging the recent encounters with her fans during her Eras Tour in the United States, she continued, “I’ve been fortunate to witness many of you at my recent US shows. I’ve heard you raise your voices, and I’m aware of their tremendous power. Ensure you’re prepared to wield that power in this year’s elections!”
The artist behind “Cruel Summer” concluded her message with a link to Vote.org, stating, “Register to vote in less than 2 minutes at vote.org/nvrd.”
It’s worth noting that earlier this year, Swift also encouraged her audience to participate in voting. In July, she urged her Nashville fans to take part in the hotly contested mayoral election in the city.
On her Instagram Story, she posted a selfie proudly displaying an “I voted today” sticker. Over the image, she added the message, “Hi Nashville! Early voting for our city officials and some statewide seats begins today.”
The Grammy-winning artist went on to emphasize the significance of this opportunity, stating, “We have the chance to select those who will represent us for the next four years. I cast my vote today, and I strongly encourage each and every one of you to do the same and ensure your voice is heard.”
The artist known for “Karma” also stressed the importance of Swifties (Taylor Swift’s fans) participating in the 2020 election.
It’s important to note that Swift has been openly sharing her political beliefs since 2018 when she endorsed Phil Bredesen, the Democratic candidate for the Senate in Tennessee.
