Swift reworked the title of her ‘Tortured Poets Department’ track ‘thanK you aIMee’ to ‘thank You aimEe’.
Taylor Swift subtly altered the title of her song “thanK you aIMee” to “thank You aimEe” for the live version she performed in London in June — and this minor change is making waves among her fans.
Just days after Swift’s album The Tortured Poets Department spent its 14th week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, blocking Kanye West (Ye) and Ty Dolla $ign’s joint album Vultures 2 from claiming the top spot, Swift appeared to take a swipe at the Chicago rapper.
On Thursday, Aug. 15, the 34-year-old singer released a live mashup of “thank You aimEe” and “Mean,” which she performed during her June 22 Eras Tour show. Originally, the capital letters in the title “thanK you aIMee” spelled out “KIM,” with the song rumored to reference Kim Kardashian as the “bully.” Now, with the title changed to “thank You aimEe,” the capital letters spell out “YE,” seemingly adding another chapter to their long-standing feud.
In the Tortured Poets song, Swift sings: “All that time you were throwing punches, I was building something / And I can’t forgive the way you made me feel / Screamed ‘F— you, Aimee’ to the night sky, as the blood was gushing / But I can’t forget the way you made me heal.”
Beyond Ye’s interruption of Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, the rapper also included these controversial lyrics in his 2016 song “Famous”: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b—- famous.” He later claimed she approved the lyrics, but Swift’s representative denied she was informed about the “I made that b—- famous” line. Throughout that feud, Kardashian stood by Ye’s side.
Though Swift has never confirmed the identity behind “thanK you aIMee” (now “thank You aimEe”), fans quickly speculated that the original “KIM” referred to Kim Kardashian, and the new “YE” nods to her ex-husband, Kanye West.
One fan on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, “We love a shady queen,” while another commented, “Taylor changing the letters in ‘thank you aimee’ from ‘Kim’ to ‘Ye’ is a VERY reputation-coded thing for her to do🐍.”
