Why Some Fans Believe Selena Gomez Referenced a Beloved Taylor Swift Song in Her Latest Album

The line “We’re not gettin’ any younger/But your girlfriends seem to” struck a familiar chord with some Taylor Swift fans.
Fans are speculating that Selena Gomez may have referenced a Taylor Swift song in her latest album.
On Friday, March 21, Gomez, 32, and her fiancé Benny Blanco released their album I Said I Love You First. One track, titled “Younger and Hotter Than Me”, has lyrics that remind listeners of Swift’s well-known track.
In the chorus, Gomez sings:
“We’re not gettin’ any younger/But your girlfriends seem to.”
Later in the song, she continues:
“Is she younger and hotter than me?/Is it all in my head?/Should have moved on instead.”
This bears a resemblance to Swift’s lyric from All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version):
“And I was never good at tellin’ jokes, but the punch line goes/’I’ll get older, but your lovers stay my age.’ “
The similarity has led fans to believe Gomez may have subtly nodded to Swift’s iconic breakup ballad.
Fans quickly picked up on the lyrical parallels between the two artists, who have been close friends since at least 2008.
One fan took to X, writing:
“Woah. The subject matter of this song is reminiscent of All Too Well a bit, especially with the ‘we’re not getting any younger, but your girlfriends seem to’ line. Sonically, it’s perfect for Selena’s voice as well.”
Another fan added, “Younger and Hotter Than Me by Selena reminds me of All Too Well (10 Minute Version) by Taylor.”
A third fan even paired footage from the All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) music video with Gomez’s “Younger and Hotter Than Me” playing over it.
Additionally, one person shared a side-by-side screenshot of the two songs’ lyrics, highlighting the shared theme of youth being seen as desirable.
The day after I Said I Love You First was released, Taylor Swift took to her Instagram Stories to praise the album.
“@selenagomez & @itsbennyblanco I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH. OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDD,” Swift wrote on Saturday, March 22, alongside a link to the album.
Swift has previously shown support for Gomez’s music. When Gomez released her 2023 track “Single Soon”, Swift shared a reel from Gomez with the caption:
“When your bestie is the bestest. Will be dancing to this forever methinks.”
Gomez has also returned the love, attending Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Arlington, Texas, in April 2023, where her sister Gracie Elliott Teefey received the iconic “22” hat during the show. The duo later attended another Eras Tour concert in Los Angeles that August.
